Goal Setting: The FINAL Step Revealed

There are many ways to set goals, and you probably think you've heard them all. In order to set goals, you are told to make a list of what you want. Decide how you are going to get it. Think about it every day.

But HOW do you think about it?

How about if you draw a picture of it? Write a poem about it? Even turn that poem into a song? Then, you sing that little song so much you know it by heart and whenever you think about that goal, your song comes to mind and your heart sings. Would that help?

How about if you spend fifteen minutes, three times a day, visualizing your goal? And, if you can't do it three times a day, how about two? If you can't do it two times a day, how about one? If you can't do it for fifteen minutes each time, how about ten minutes? If you can't do it for ten minutes, how about five minutes? Schedule it in at the beginning of each week, so you know you'll have time for it. Always try for the ultimate of three times a day for fifteen minutes. If you can't, improvise, but stick to it.

Now, for the final step!

Visualize your LIFE after your goal is achieved! In other words, you are going to DIRECT your thoughts, not dream them. It's as if you are looking back on all you accomplished and it has all come true.

Sometimes, money gets pretty scarce and just the thought of making a house payment is scary. Are you dreaming about how it would be to afford the home you are living in now? Maybe you should stop that. Especially if it hasn't gotten you anywhere.

Maybe you should stop passively DREAMING about being able to afford it, and start actively dreaming by DIRECTING your thoughts to the every day activities of HAVING the money to pay for it AND the bills that come with it. The responsibilities as well as the pleasures.

What is the amount of the utility bill are you paying? When you are relaxed, DIRECT your thoughts to how it feels to write that check because there's plenty of money in the checkbook. What is the amount of your house payment? DIRECT your thoughts to how it feels to write that check because there's plenty of money in the checkbook. What about your property taxes? DIRECT your thoughts to how it feels to write that check because there's plenty of money in the checkbook. How does it feel to pick up the pen and write each of the checks out, knowing there's plenty more where that came from, possibly enough to buy new furniture? Hey, hey, hey, how does that feel? Being able to pay your bills AND buy new furniture? Who would have thought? You did, because you directed your thoughts that way, instead of the old thought pattern of there's never enough money. What does THAT tell your brain?

*** TIP: DIRECT your thoughts to the mundane to begin with, so that you don't fall back into the thought pattern of dreaming and not receiving. For some, dreaming and not receiving goes hand in hand.

Don't passively dream about what you will do on your vacation, actively DIRECT your thoughts to reserving the hotel room, the car rental, the tickets to Disney World. To making sure you have your motion-sickness pills, your child's favorite pillow, your wife's laptop computer.

When you are relaxed, DIRECT your mind to the time you will be flying back, the musty odor of a closed-in house, and what you can do to prevent those *Oh, I'm back home blues.*

Here's one I like. DIRECT your mind to the people you will talk to about your trip who have already been there. That's a really neat way to gain rapport! DIRECT your mind to how may people you can gain rapport with, that will enjoy talking to you about their trip too, and each of you taking notes for the next trip!

Don't passively dream about living in a new house, actively DIRECT your thoughts to signing the closing papers, moving the furniture, putting away the groceries in the new cupboards. The more mundane the better, because you know these things have to be done. Visualize doing them, and visualize yourself having fun doing them! How often will you move your furniture around? Will you buy new furniture? Reupholster? When you are relaxed, direct your mind to accomplishing these things up to and including the day you have the housewarming party.

Yes, it is good to make a list. A list of what to do when you are relaxing.

Day 1, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses.

Day 2, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses, then finding the right one.

Day 3, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses, then finding the right one, then signing the papers.

Day 4, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses, then finding the right one, then signing the papers, then putting your house up for sale.

Day 5, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses, then finding the right one, then signing the papers, then putting your house up for sale, then selling your house.

Day 6, spend 15 minutes three times a day imagining looking for houses, then finding the right one, then signing the papers, then putting your house up for sale, then selling your house . . .

Well, you get the picture. Every day you add a new step. By the time you get to Day 30, you will have your house so firmly established in your mind, you can't help but have your goals turn into reality.

Do this with any goal and watch your goal materialize, first on the mental plane, then on the physical plane.

As your imagination gain clarity, your brain starts bringing things into your realm. The purpose of the strategy is to get you out of the dreaming mode and into the *accomplished* mode. DIRECT your thoughts and this will happen.
